Vasa Lund Place (VLP) is being planned for those aged 55 and up. It will be an ideal community for those seeking active, independent and secure living. It will be a community of good neighbours and like-minded people enjoying similar lifestyles and interests. Vasa Lund Place is being developed, at cost, and will be owned by the well established, non-profit, Vasa Lund Place Inc. Daily management will be provided by an experienced, non-profit organization, S. A. M. (Management) Inc. VLP will be an aging-in-place facility that provides housing for active, independent seniors. The goal of VLP is to provide quality, comfortable, healthy, safe and environmentally responsible housing and services, for the 55+ segment of our population. Please note that VLP will have a "No Pets" policy.
Spacious and Elegant Retirement Living
Vasa Lund Place is located at 5429 Roblin Blvd, immediately south Vasa Lund Estates which is adjacent to the Assiniboine riverbank. The Swedish Canadian Home lies to the south of the proposed complex. East of the site is the upscale residential development of Assiniboine Woods. West of the site is the Charleswood Care Home. The development features generous green space and landscaping features which thoughtfully incorporate access to a natural riverbank forest.
Vasa Lund Place is being architecturally designed to produce a quality living environment capable of responding to the desires and needs of older adults. The amenities include lounge, library, games room, multipurpose room for 120 people, and an outdoor rooftop terrace. Throughout the facility, expansive glazing and a sheltered outdoor area is provided to minimize separation between the building and the site. This design helps promote community, but also overcomes Winnipeg’s harsh weather elements.
Suites range in size from 1317 to 1468 square feet. All suites feature two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two elevators service the 57 units. All apartments have extensive glazing and/or 4 season sunrooms/sunspaces which take advantage of the country like views. Walkouts to the patio and surrounding gardens are featured in 14 of the ground floor suites. All other above ground suites feature balconies.
The building’s floor and wall structure is composed of non-combustible construction, providing excellent fire and sound proofing. Access into the building is controlled by a security system. Points of entry are also monitored by a video surveillance system viewable by all residents.
The building is designed to minimize its impact on the environment and at the same time allow the environment to impact the building’s interior. Superior roof, wall and window assemblies provide a highly effective thermal barrier against Winnipeg’s extreme climate, without compromising the infiltration of abundant natural light. The building’s heating, cooling and ventilation systems are individually controlled in order to maintain thermal comfort for each suite. Water-conserving plumbing fixtures further reduce the impact on the environment, and the use of low V.O.C. paints and finishes further enhance indoor air quality.
